Cereal and Malt Extracts (Pty) Ltd Company History
As part of the post-World War industrial expansion in South Africa, German national Maxwell Heindrich established a light engineering business partnership in Johannesburg . From small beginnings as Almaks Engineering in 1945, the business diversified into manufacturing brewing equipment and a beer malting plant.
In 1951 the business built new premises at the township of Industria which had been laid out at the end of the 1920’s on the old farm Langlaagte where the original gold discoveries had been made. After the deaths of Max and his son, John in 1984, the company was subsequently purchased by a major food corporation for over a decade. It has been independently owned since 2000.
Still at its original and considerably modernised site in Industria, Cereal & Malt (Pty) Ltd has a long history of manufacturing and supplying malt and barley products to a wide range of food manufacturers in South Africa and abroad.
